HART COUNTY, Ga. – The Hart County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be on alert after receiving multiple reports of a door-to-door pine straw scam in the area.
According to authorities, individuals have been approaching homeowners and offering to spread pine straw at what is described as a low price per bale. However, once the pine straw is laid, the individuals allegedly demand a much higher payment than what was originally agreed upon.
The sheriff’s office advises residents to exercise caution when dealing with unsolicited offers for home or yard services, particularly those that involve pressure to pay immediately or changes to pricing after work has begun.
Anyone who encounters individuals matching this description or believes they may have been targeted or scammed is encouraged to contact the Hart County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials are also asking the public to share the warning to help keep the community informed and prevent additional residents from becoming victims.
