HART COUNTY, Ga. — A body has been recovered from Lake Hartwell nearly two months after a drowning victim went missing, according to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, Bruce’s Legacy Search and Rescue Team notified the sheriff’s office that crews had located the body of a deceased individual in approximately 88 feet of water.
Authorities said the body was found in the area where search crews had been looking for a drowning victim who went missing on June 20.
The individual was recovered from the lake and turned over to the Hart County Coroner’s Office for identification. Officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the person recovered.
Hart County Sheriff Chris Carroll thanked Bruce’s Legacy Search and Rescue Team, Mitchell’s Light, Deep Adventures and the other search teams and individuals who assisted with the search.
Additional information is expected to be released following the identification process.
