Vehicle Pursuit in Hartwell Ends with Drug Arrests

HARTWELL, Ga. — A vehicle pursuit through downtown Hartwell early Monday morning resulted in the arrest of two individuals on multiple charges, including drug-related offenses, according to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the incident began shortly before 1:30 a.m. on June 1 when a deputy attempted to stop a 1998 Toyota Corolla on West Howell Street near Leard Street.

According to investigators, the driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit. The vehicle traveled onto West Franklin Street and continued in the wrong direction behind First Baptist Church before turning onto Chandler Street and crossing East Howell Street toward the rear of Synovus Bank.

The pursuit came to an end when a deputy performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver near the railroad tracks behind Synovus Bank, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Corey Randolph Gable of Elberton. He was arrested and charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, driving without a license, unsafe operation of a vehicle, no tag light, and a headlight requirements violation.

A passenger in the vehicle, 35-year-old Amber Wilkerson of Lawrenceville, was also arrested. She faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, tampering with evidence, crossing guard lines with weapons, drugs or intoxicants, giving a false name to law enforcement, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Both individuals were transported to the Hart County Jail without further incident.

In a statement, Sheriff Chris Carroll commended the deputies involved for safely ending the pursuit and removing illegal drugs from the community.

The case remains under investigation.
