HART COUNTY, Ga. – On May 23, 2025, at approximately 7:25 p.m., a deputy with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Marsh Lane near the intersection of Royston Highway.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Codney Jermaine Alexander, age 44, of Canon, Georgia, and requested that he step out of the vehicle due to an active warrant for his arrest. Upon exiting the vehicle, Alexander attempted to flee on foot. The deputy gave chase, deployed a Taser, and Alexander was taken into custody in the woods nearby.
During the foot pursuit, the deputy observed Alexander discard a small bag. Upon returning to the location, deputies recovered the bag, which contained just over 38 grams of methamphetamine, just over 12 grams of crack cocaine and other drug related objects.
While handcuffed and seated in the back of a patrol unit, Alexander was able to manipulate the rear window, crawl out, and flee the scene a second time. Deputies on scene quickly gave chase and apprehended him again without further incident.
Codney Jermaine Alexander was arrested and charged with:
• Trafficking Methamphetamine
• Possession of a Controlled Substance (Crack Cocaine) with Intent to Distribute
• Tampering with Evidence
• Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer
• Escape
• Theft by taking
