HART COUNTY, Ga. — A 59-year-old Monroe man was taken to the hospital Saturday evening after a law enforcement pursuit ended when deputies used a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing his truck to leave the roadway and overturn.

According to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a be-on-the-lookout alert from Athens-Clarke County authorities on Oct. 31 for a black 1997 Ford truck driven by Euladee Stowers. Stowers, 59, had active warrants for a family violence offense and was reportedly known to flee from law enforcement.

Just before 6 p.m., a Hart County deputy spotted the truck traveling on Airline Goldmine Road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit.

The chase continued along Airline Goldmine Road before Stowers turned onto Blackmon Road. A deputy attempted a PIT maneuver, but the truck continued fleeing and turned onto Bowersville Highway.

Shortly afterward, a deputy successfully performed a second PIT maneuver, causing the truck to enter a ditch and overturn.

Stowers was turned over to Hart County EMS and transported to a hospital. His condition was not released.

The sheriff’s office charged Stowers with two counts of felony fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding, failure to stop for a stop sign, driving with an expired license, expired tag, passing in a no-passing zone and failure to maintain lane.

The incident was reported by Sheriff Chris Carroll.
