HART COUNTY, Ga. — Two men are facing a long list of charges after deputies with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office arrested them in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins early Thursday morning.
Around 1:40 a.m. on October 9, deputies were called to a home on Laurel Drive after residents reported seeing individuals breaking into two vehicles. Several items were stolen, including a firearm, according to Sheriff Chris Carroll.
Deputies began searching the area and soon spotted two males wearing black hoodies and masks riding bicycles on Hardy Street. When deputies attempted to speak with them, both suspects ran.
One suspect was captured shortly afterward, while the second was found later that morning at a home on Lecroy Lane in Hartwell. Two firearms were recovered in the area where the suspects fled.
The suspects were identified as Jermari Azuis Jackson, 17, of Homeland Park, South Carolina, and Dorian Rayshaun Cobb, 18, of Hampton, Georgia.
Jackson faces multiple counts of entering an auto, attempted entering auto, criminal trespass, obstruction of officers, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, tampering with evidence, loitering or prowling, and possession of a pistol by a person under 18.
Cobb faces similar charges, including multiple counts of entering an auto, attempted entering auto, criminal trespass, obstruction, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and loitering or prowling.
Since the arrests, the sheriff’s office has received additional reports of vehicle break-ins and attempted break-ins in the same area. Investigators are working to determine whether the incidents are related. Additional charges may follow.
Sheriff Carroll commended deputies and investigators for their quick response and thanked the Hartwell Police Department for their assistance. He also reminded residents to keep their vehicles locked, remove valuables, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
